As 2010 comes to an end, Broadway.com editors chose our top five Broadway shows of the year—and we asked readers to chime in and vote for your favorites, too. Turns out that great minds think alike: Promises, Promises ranks as fans' number-one show, echoing the editors' choice. The hit revival, starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth, landed in first place with 21% of votes.
The rest of your top five, all musicals, departed from the editors' picks. Coming in a close second was the rock opera American Idiot, with 20% of votes. Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong will return to the musical for a limited engagement beginning January 1, 2011.
The Tony-winning revival of La Cage aux Folles landed in third place with 9% of votes. The glitzy musical will welcome new stars Harvey Fierstein (who wrote the show's book) and Jeffrey Tambor on February 15.
Broadway's kookiest crew, The Addams Family, earned the fourth spot with 8% of votes. The musical, starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth, previously earned a Broadway.com Audience Award for Favorite New Musical of the 2009-2010 season.
Rounding out the top five fan favorite is Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. The rocking musical scored 6% of votes, and will play its final performance on January 2 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
Thanks for voting!
